Preventing drunks from driving — Free to use startup idea!
What if I’ve told you I know if a driver is drunk before he even touches the wheel? and this ability can be yours?
Why?
Saying drunk driving is a problem is an understatement, and identifying these behaviours is another very critical problem. Statistically speaking, each hour a man dies due to drunk driving only in the USA!
but what if there was a way to lower this number down?
How?
The system will be applied to already existing security cameras at bars and restaurants. Using machine learning algorithms we can detect who, what and how much one drank an alcoholic beverage.
but let’s get into specific details.
The process will go as followed:
- The system will detect alcoholic beverages in the given environment and calculate the percentage of alcohol in each drink.
- The system will detect users and their preferences (gender, size, etc.) and then create a profile for each of them in case it can’t find an already existing one.
- Check the association between the users and the alcoholic beverages.
- Constantly updating the users' profiles for real-time data.
Requirement
The system is ML-based, to do so we need a model to detect and recognize faces and a model to recognize alcoholic beverages.
We can already see ML models detect faces in a crowd and others which can recognize faces, we just need to combine them.
For the second model, one which can recognise alcoholic beverages I didn't find any existing ones so I poorly created mine:
Example
Let’s say a man called john went to a bar, he parked his car at the parking lot and then proceed to the entrance where a guard name daniel asks him for an id, john shows the id and enters the bar.
As john enters the bar he's been recorded by the bar camera, the system uses that information, saves his face and creates a profile for him.
The night goes on and john orders a bottle of whisky, john has the time of his life and even got some girl's number!
The system detects the beverage and checks in its database for its alcoholic percentage, then add it to john’s profile.
John is tired and wants to go home, he takes his wallet and keys and goes to the exit.
As he approaches the exit daniel the guard stops him and shows him his profile which says that he cannot drive!
From this point john can do one of two things:
- He can thank daniel and call a taxi to get home.
- He can ignore daniel and try to drive but unfortunately, the cops stop him as soon as he starts the car.
Why publish it?
Some of you might ask what is my interest in publishing it.
It's a very basic idea with a lot to think about, is it ethical? will the police accept it legally? and I wanted the community to give an opinion on it and maybe develop it cause I can’t give it the time :)
